Graveyard Listings in Hull - Looking for Walter Stubbs
I am visiting Yorkshire for a couple of days in two weeks time (I live
in Somerset) and would love to be able to visit the grave of my
grandfather Walter Stubbs who I know is buried in one of the cemeterys
in Hull. I was taken there as a small child but obviously at the
advanced age of 60 memory has faded!
He died in 1922 as a result of long term injuries sustained in the first
world war - so family tradition has it. His wife died in 1918. The
Hull council have indicated that I could make an appointment to trawl
through their records, but frankly as there are quite a few graveyards
in Hull I would need to spend a precious day doing simply that.
If anyone has any index records of burials I would be grateful for help
in finding at least which Graveyard to visit.
Dear One and All
As an old member returning I would like to know if anyone has a graveyard map for I think its St Andrew's Church in Kirk Ella.
I am travelling to Yorkshire next week for a funeral and may get the opportunity to visit Kirk Ella to take pictures of family gravestones.
I'm new to the list but looking for more info and would appreciate it if anyone is familiar with these "Key's":

I am new to the list and would like to post my interests. I am searching
for SKINGLE in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Samuel SKINGLE (1844 - 1930)
was a Baptist Minister of The Manse, Bishop Burton from about 1901 until his
death in 1930. I would particularly like to hear from any of his
descendants. He was married to Esther Heritage and they had 8 children. I
would also be interested to hear the history of the Manse, when it was built
etc. We have recently come back from a great holiday in Ebberston when we
visited Bishop Burton and Beverley where a son of Samuels once resided.
I would also appreciate a look up of the local telephone directories. If any
SKINGLE's are listed could I please have addresses as I would like to write
I also enjoyed Radio 4's Today programme, this morning from the village hall
in Bishop Burton.
One of the ways to find where Yorkshire villages etc are located is
through Genuki. Here is a useful link that is worth bookmarking:-
There is also a very useful (and free) software application called
"Parish Locator" for all the parishes of England. You can get it from:-
But, just to let you knoew:-
Strensall and Haxby are in the North Riding but are very close to York
itself and also East Riding.
North Duffield is part of Skipwith Parish which is in East Riding but
this is on top of the North Riding boundary also.
There are several parishes in York - see the first link above to see
I hope this helps

Hi everyone. I am new and I am in Australia.
Could some one please tell me if Strensall and Haxby fall in East Riding or North Yorkshire.
Also North Duffield near Skipwith and the city of York. Thanks Lyn
I'm new to the list and not sure I subscribed to the right one. Would this be the one for East Riding, Settrington? I'm thinking I read that Settrington is considered North Yorkshire now.
Thanks for any help.
I have a couple of BARNETTs on my tree, but very, very far removed from my
direct line. They came from Bridlington, East Yorkshire. There were several
BARNETT families living there - but I couldn't find a George. However, in
nearby Whitby there was a a George BARNETT baptised on 31 December 1834 - his
parents were George and Margaret. Whether this is your chap or not I cannot
say - there was another George Frederick BARNETT bap. Leeds, West Yorkshire 5
I haven't checked whether either of these chaps appear on any censii after
the date your George arrived in Australia.
Just a clue, but both Bridlington and Whitby contained many fishing families
- do you know what occupation your George followed?
