Good news Doug,
Cannot believe how much we have in common. We stayed with friends/ friends who are Fellows at Oxford and resided in the college. Loved the meals in the “Harry Potter “ hall. And the Tempest outside of our bedroom window!
We are off tomorrow and will spend a week in Cadgwith and a week in Port Isaac. We rent the old fisherman’s cottages, just heaven and close to the pubs……….. sadly we only return every second year, although went to Augusta Masters last year and what an event that is.
Will obviously visit Veryn but sadly many of the grave stones are damaged or no more. They have shuffled off this mortal coil.
Cheers for now
Paul

Hello Paul,
Thanks for writing, but your admonishments are misplaced. I have been visiting Cornwall on an almost annual basis since the mid-1970s and even more often while I was a visiting fellow at Oxford 2001-2012. I have a lot of cousins in the Duchy and I fly St. Piran's flag every March 5th. My cousins long ago set me straight on my Cornish roots, as did my maternal grandparents, who were born in Beacon (Camborne) and Illogan, respectively. So, I think I do know the difference between England and Cornwall. My particular research specialties are worded the way they are so as not to confuse would-be clients who do not know the difference.
My own Tregunno ancestry from St. Keverne only spans a period between the second half of the 17th century into the first half of the 18th. In almost all instances, the St. Keverne registers have either Tregun(n)o or Tregunow, so for my own purposes in writing my family history, I employ the spelling as found in the records. I have not followed the line further into more recent centuries as the three generations I'm dealing with provide a link between a more recent male line (Lawrence) and an older line (Ellis) of my ancestry.
Thanks much for offering to supply any information you may have, but I think I have as much as can be found for the small grouping of people of the surname and have already written the "Tregunno" chapter of my family history. Still, it's nice to have been in touch with an 'ancestral cousin."
With my best wishes,
Doug

Thanks so much for letting me know exactly where Doc Martin is being
filmed. Beautiful landscapes.

Poldack is also filmed in Cornwall. It is in an area on the water with
great cliffs and they film a lot in tin a mine also on the water.. In
the show, they mention going into Truro on business. I assume it is
being filmed near there.

Well, was I surprised to see that there were three Ruan parishes! A few
months ago when the lists went back online with the new and so-called
improved version of Rootsweb, I checked what lists in the areas of my
interest were stranded and need an owner. One was RUAN in County
Cornwall. At the time I signed up to take it over and occasionally, I
have sent a reminders to the list that we will lose the list if we do
not use it. Now, not only do I want to wake up the list but also add a
section to my website to cover it. I am looking for ideas and, frankly,
interest.
Yesterday, I started with my Lists that I admin in England and started
with Cornwall, thinking it covered only two parishes, Ruan and Veryan.
Now, thanks to your email mentioning that Ruan was actually three
parishes, I did some research and map looking and find that you are 100%
correct. I have found they are named: Ruan Major, Ruan Minor and Ruan
Laniborne. I checked the Rootsweb lists and they do not have lists for
the three separate parishes, only Ruan so I guess we will cover all three.
I also checked my Phillimore Atlas and Index and find there are separate
records for all three. So, I am thinking, if I do a webpage for RUAN,
it will be one webpage with three sections when it comes to records but
I think the surname registry can cover all three.
Looking for ideas, questions and, of course, corrections.

Thanks for the offer, Paul
> If I can give you any support with Veryan happy to have a go.
If I decide to create a website for this parish, I will let the list
know and will be looking for links to records and/or history and
pictures. I am waiting to see how many subscribers reply to my post.
Another option is if one of you living in Cornwall would like to take
the list over, I would pass it over to you. My family study includes
Redruth so was very comfortable keeping that list, I might have even
started it.
Btw, do any of you watch Dr. Martin and/or Poldack? We get both on tv
networks here that get government funds and watcher funds. Both are
filmed on the West lower part of Cornwall and have gorgeous water
views. On one of my trips to Ireland, I had plans to take a boat over
to Wales and a train down to the Swansea area. However, when I got to
Ireland there was a breakout of Foot and Mouth disease in the cattle in
England and my trip to Cornwall was cancelled. Now I am retired and not
much funds to go tripping off to Ireland/England anymore.

Surprisingly, Rootsweb has not killed these two Cornwall mailing lists,
however, no one has posted any info on the lists in months and Rootsweb
is warning us list owners that we could loose the dead lists.
So, this is my almost monthly and maybe my last reminder. I have fallen
down on my job but want to make it up to both lists by creating two new
sections of my website dedicated to both Ruan and Veryan. You can check
what I have done with Redruth:
http://www.connorsgenealogy.com/Redruth/
And, check out he Redruth Surname Registry:
http://www.connorsgenealogy.com/Redruth/surnames.htm
This is what I would like to do for both Ruan and Veryan. However, I
need to know if others are interested. My website is made up of
surnames and places of where my ancestors originated and lived. I have
PHILLIPS from Redruth who emigrated first to Wales and then to New
York. They were my great great grandparents.
I do not have ancestors from either Ruan or Veryan but since I am now
the list owner for both parishes/towns, I would like to add them to my
website and possibly get others to join our list, that is if there is
enough interest in this mailing list with those already members. So, I
am going to give it a week before deciding. If you would like to keep
this list keep going and have our own website, please post to the list
and let us all know. If I see enough enthusiasm over the next week, I
will make my decision and let you know.
