I would like to submit Brookside Cemetery in Brookside, KY, located in
Harlan County, Kentucky. The cemetery is rural, with a dirt road and surrounded by
mountains of lush green trees and vines that never seem to stop. This
cemetery was established in the early 1900s. At one time Brookside was a booming coal
mining camp. All the houses have been torn down and Brookside in reality no
longer exists. The movie, Harlan County USA was shot there and won an academy
award for best documentary by Barbara Koppel, Cabin Creek Films 1976. I have
photos and map of Brookside and tombstones located in the cemetery, on the <A
Harlan County</A>, website. There is also a a river called the Clover Fork close by
of course the mighty Cumberland River. There has been numerous books written
about Harlan County and it's people. I was born and raised there and now live
in Nevada. There are numerous cemeteries in this area, which would qualify,
Harlan County, for the type of location, you are seeking. Permission would be no
problem. Thank you for your time and good luck with your film.

I am hoping someone out there may be of some assistance.
I am looking for a location to shoot a movie in. We need a decent sized
(5+acres), atmospheric cemetery, kind of tumbledown and unkempt, with a good
variety of graves (mainly late nineteenth and early 20th century
preferably). Ideally it is rural, has loads of trees in amongst the graves,
and a sightline to a dirt road and a place where a shack could be built.
