I think this is what you are looking for as a starting point. The census
was taken on the 3rd April 1881 so the twins were born in the last quarter
of 1880. I am wondering if Llanbadon is Llanbadarnfawr or Llanbadarn y
Croyddin near Aberystwyth in Cardiganshire. There were only 37 Bonsalls
living in Wales in 1881 let me know if you want details of the others as the
majority seem to be living around Aberystwyth. I will be no trouble to send
Good luck with your research.

Subject: [Dyfed] Joseph and John Bonsall, twins b abt 1881
In researching one line of my family I find that I am stopped at my
g-grandfather Joseph Bonsall. I know only the following:
Per the 1920 US Census, he was born in Wales abt 1881 (give or take census
>From oral tradition I know that he had a twin brother named John,
not know if John emigrated also. Not a surprise, Joseph was a coal miner in
Luzerne Co PA at the time of the census.
Joseph had 3 children born in the U.S., and on one of their death records
out that the name of the mother (Joseph's wife) was Mary Jane
Richards. I have no data on her.
There is some other oral tradition but none that gives decent facts to
I have checked all the indexes that I have been able to dig up on the
have not been able to locate Joseph on a passenger list,
previous census, or any way to figure out where he came from in Wales. I
chose to post to this board because of the Bonsall data on rootsweb showing
that Bonsalls settled in Cardiganshire but I realize that this is just a
shot in the dark.
Any instruction (short of going to Wales and walking about) about how to
this would be appreciated. I posted to the surname message board
as well but so far I have received no response. I would request a lookup
but have no idea where to start!
Thanks, and sorry to be an irritating newbie if that is the case.
