THE INDUSTRIALIZATION OF A GLAMORGAN PARISH (Llangiwg)
By Hugh Thomas, National Library of Wales journals; Winter 1975 to Winter
The extract of the three articles is complete, start at
As Llangiwg is one of my own parishes I am obviously biased but I still
recommend the whole (very long) article as a good read for anyone
interested in understanding how a typical 'immigrant' parish developed
through the C19 (many came from CMN).
Lots of detailed analysis, many aspects of parish life covered (housing,
religion, disease etc)-- a serious piece of work.
A 'must download' for anyone with an interest in Gwauncaegurwen, Cwmgors,
Brynaman,Ystalyfera, Pontardawe, Cwmtwrch, Cwmllynfell etc.
Any of the latter (apart from Ystalyfera-ites) who haven't yet visited
should also drop in on my own Cwmgors/Gwauncaegurwen/Amman Valley site
