Re: Mary Rees - International Genealogical Index

Another 'hint' about using the IGI:
- Whenever you see "abt" or "about," it means that someone has made
their best guess as to when the event occcured, usually (but not
always) because a record of the event could not be found.
- Whenever you see "of" in regard to a place, that also means someone
made their best guess, based on where the person was known to have
lived at the time of some other event, such as marriage, giving birth,
- Regarding the above event (death), this information was *not* usually
extracted from parish records or bishop's transcripts. Check the source
information where you will find a general statement about where the
entry information came from. If there is a batch number beginning with
the letter "D," it is probably an extracted death record. If there is a
hot-linked film number, clicking on it will give more information
about the source.
I hope this helps a bit!!

Have you looked to see the source of the IGI information? It could be
information submitted by a church member and therefore only repeating
that person has heard. The word "about" is suspicious.
