In a message dated 4/27/03 11:02:27 PM Pacific Daylight Time,
I saw your email re Llanddewi Brefi. I have the John Davies on Llechauisaf,
Conwil Caio, age 29 born in Llanddewi Brefi which makes him born c1852.
Conwil Caio and Llanddewi Brefi are right next to each other. I've got
family, also named Davies, bouncing back and forth between the two parishes.
(Nobody in those days paid any attention to the fact they were in a different
Davies is a very common surname in that area. Your best bet with John is to
order his birth certificate. I don't know where you live whether in the USA,
Canada or the UK. If you live in the area, I would go to the Registry Office
in Lampeter and talk to the Registrar. Ask her if she has a birth
certificate for him. I know, a lot of you on the internet, are going to say,
well, don't bother, just get it on the internet. There's something about
holding a piece of paper (a certificate) in your hand that makes all the
difference in the world in your research. You realize suddenly that person
lived, was born, married and died and you're related to him. Besides, there
may be more information on the piece of paper than you would get off the
That's what I would do - I would order it. What it is going to tell you is
the name of the child, his date of birth and where, his father's name and
occupation and mother's maiden name, and who registered the birth . Once
you have that, I think I can help you so you need to get back to me.

I am trying to trace a John Davies born in Llandewibrefi around 1852. I
some CDs of Carmarthenshire, and on the 1881 Census it shows him (aged 29)
with his family living in Conwil Caio. at a dwelling called Llechauisaf
his wife Mary and children Thomas and Ann. He was a farmer. (common I'm
Unfortunately, I don't know anything more about this John Davies apart from
above. Can anyone help with a lookup or let me know how I could trace
CDs for that area?
Also his daughter Ann went on to marry someone called James (surname) and
continued to live in Caio. She apparently had a son called Saachi - surely
this is not a common Welsh name???? Just was wondering if it actually was
and meant anything in Welsh?
