Dear Myrna & List,
I have just had a look at the St. David's Probate index and there actually
were Wills proved at Camrose for Owen Ormond in 1610 and William Ormond also
in 1610. I was surprised to see so many early Ormond Wills....I haven't
looked at them on The Nat. Library site myself, but was surpised to see so
many early ones listed........and I would imagine it is in your interest to
search all of the early ones.
If the handwriting is a problem, when H/west RO opens again (when does it,
anyone????) you could purchase an abstract at least showing the names and
some details from the RO...or that method was available in the past.
Perhaps someone can help Myrna out further....if they have private access to
Francis Green's volumes it may be possible to report actually to what I'm
It is such a busy time of year, but as there are only a few of them,(with
the List object of helping when possible), here are the Ormond marriages of
males in the same Hundred which includes Camrose in the pre 1813 index: I
would imagine even in those days, some of the marriages at least would have
taken place in the bride's parish.....the bridegroom may have not
necessarily lived locally.
At least this may give you some other surnames to follow.
John Ormond 1631 m. Jane Adames at H/west St. Mary ref. FG MSS Vol.8 p.61
John Ormond 1747 m. Abra Gilman at H/west St. Martin
William Ormond 1615/16 H/west St. Mary m. Margaret No surname given. ref.
FG MSS Vol. 6 p.59
William Ormond 1717(?) H/west St. Thomas m. Elizabeth Davis
William Ormond 1741 H/west St. Mary m. Mary Powell
William Ormond 1789 Burton m. Mary Phillips
Sydney is humid, and sweltering........hope no Listers live in Mildura where
it was 45.5 deg. C yesterday!
