I know that the first genealogist who showed that Hilary Clinton had different
Welsh ancestry from the prior established lore, was a well-known American
researcher called Megan Smolenyak Smolenyak.
Apparently if you followed the paper trail in America, one lady, Hannah Jones
(born in Scranton, PA, ca 1882), who could be the Welsh grandmother of Hilary
Clinton fell out of the online records easily and it was soon assumed this was
the lady in question. But there was an alternative candidate, but appreciably
more difficult to research. Megan Smolenyak2 did this research and thus showed
all previous pedigrees were incorrect.
Quotes: "So it's astonishing that no one had taken the time to make sure that
they had identified the correct Hannah Jones. As it happens, there were two baby
girls born with this name in Scranton around the same time, and the other one
left a more conspicuous paper trail. It's not surprising that some researchers
fell into the trap of picking the wrong one, but it's mind-blowing that everyone

Subject: [Dyfed] Hilary Clinton
I do not know if any of the List reads the "Narberth and Whitland Observer" I
have read the issue dated Friday 20th October, which has a front page article
re children from Narberth Junior School and teachers meeting with Hilary
Clinton when she was given a doctorate in Swansea University. Apparently she
told them her great great grandfather was
buried at Narberth! There are no details given. I have read previously she had
Pembrokeshire ancestry. Also I read that she had two lines of Welsh people in
I know that one branch lived and worked at Landore Swansea before they emigrated
to USA. Going by my g.g. grandparents(Myself being the same generation as
Hilary) They were alive in 1820's. and died approx 1860's. I would have
thought that Hilary Clinton's g.g. grandparents would have been at Swansea by
that date. Of course there may be a
misprint or an error in the quotation.
I found the above extremely interesting. A chart has been done for Hilary,
including her Welsh ancestry. I am wondering if Narberth Museum has any facts
and will try to find out.
