As there may be very little information on the death certificate to help
to identify the correct Evan Jones - you really need the help of someone
in a local office.
What do you know of the family?
What was Evan's wife's maiden name?
What was the address of the birth of Jenkin Jones?
Have you found the family in 1841 or 1851 census?
How old was Evans' wife in either census - that might give a clue to
Evans' age at death - unless of course you know that already.
What was Evan's occupation as given on the birth certificate of Jenkin?
Do you know that Lampeter was their home - or , as sometimes happens,
was it the family home of Jenkin's mother. A wife often went home to her
mother - especially for the first birth.
Do you know if Jenkin had any siblings?
All these things can give clues - and any other information you may
Gradually eliminating other possibles is the best way - I have had to do
that to find someone myself.
If you want a second opinion you are welcome to send the answers to my
questions to me - either off-list or on-list.

Jenkin Jones was born in May 1840 in Lampeter, on his birth certificate his
father is Evan Jones (deceased)
This gives a fairly small time frame for the death of Evan to occur. In
that time frame there are some 52 deaths recorded for the name Evan Jones!!!
Mrs Roderick of Lampeter Office has been very helpful and has eliminated
Lampeter deaths and Aberaeron deaths for me - is the only other way of
finding Evan to write to all the local offices requesting searches?
The age of Evan on death would have been approx 35 to 40. If I were to apply
to Southport would I be kicked into touch so to speak?
Any suggestions gratefully received please
