I recently searched the on-line Ellis Island records of pasenger arrivals in
New York and believe I have found several of my Hughes relatives from
Lawrenny, Pembs. They were all brothers of T.P. Hughes, a former mayor of
Tenby and founder of the Tenby department store of his name.
On the SS New York from Southampton arriving NY 7 Sept 1895 were G.A. Hughes
age 26 & A.S(or J). Hughes age 23, both from Wales. I believe these may be
George Albert Phillips Hughes (b 1870 St Issells) and his brother Arthur
John Hughes (b 1872 Lawrenny) who lived at Lawrenny Newton farm when they
were children. It appears they travelled with T.G. Warren age 25 of Wales.
This could be Thomas George P. Warren, the son of George James Warren and
Margaret (nee Prothero) b 1868/9 Pembroke Dock. In the 1881 Census there is
a Thomas Warren aged 11 at Barn Farm, Lawrenny with his grandfather Thomas
On the SS Baltic from Liverpool arriving NY 5 April 1906 was Osmond T.
Hughes, a farmer age 31, who gave his last residence as Tenby. He seems to
have been travelling with Geo. A. Smith age 21, also a farmer and last
residence Tenby. Both were 'In Transit' to Kamloops in BC, Canada. Osmond
is almost undoubtedly Osmund Tudor Hughes b 1874 Lawrenny and the younger
brother of the two Hughes brothers above. Geo. A Smith stated he had been
in Havana (Illinios?) 2 years earlier.
Does anyone have information on any of the people and/or the events above
