I have looked at the 1851 Census CDs for Glamorgan, Breconshire and
Montgomeryshire - the only three counties I have.
I have to report that I found no Richard Owen Thomas of any age, though there
were several Richard Thomases though not as many as you might expect aged
between 3 and 5:-
Glamorgan - 15 - no sibling names that might connect to your Great uncles;
Breconshire - none (1 aged 2);
Montgomeryshire - 1 (whose father was Lewis and mother Susannah + sisters Anne &
If he was always known by his full name, it is likely that he would have been so
listed in the Returns or at least with the middle initial. So it may not be
entirely impossible to find him, especially if you can get a lead from passenger
lists etc your side of the pond.
