Couple of things to clear up.
After my very slow test messages yesterday, my own isp I suspect, I'm now in
a position to fully (I think) understand some of the quirks of the new
I'm leaving the Reply or Reply to aspect as it was before migration,
although some of you may have noticed it had changed yesterday.
So, in OE anyway, 'Reply' goes to the sender alone, 'Reply All' goes to
latter AND the list which means you have to delete the sender's address if a
direct response not required.
Digests, oh dear.
I'm between the rock and the hard place with this in trying to work out
which will be less hassle for me!
Anyway, I've decided the leave the default as 'plain text' and manually
change anyone who has asked me already -or will do so - to MIME.
The 'problem' with plain text is with the act of replying, it can be done
with copy/paste but too easy to forget and send the whole digest back to
the list - not a good idea.
But most listers don't reply anyway so maybe the lesser of two evils.
Some will see it as an advantage to be able to just scroll through the whole
digest without clicking on attachments, others won't like that as the
subject line isn't hot linked to the separate messages.
Aol users should stay with plain text or the wretched beast will do
something terminal to the list messages - or so I understand.
Mime is just like the old digest, messages are shown as attachments, you
have to click each one to read it, but the subject should allow you to miss
out any that don't interest you, except mine of course :-)
With some clicking you can still read messages 'as one' , just highlight the
digest (left click), then right click it, then click on Properties, then
Details, then Message Source.
So, any digest mode lister (who *hasn't* already asked) wants to switch to
Mime then ask me off list please, I'm bracing myself :-).
I hope that is that and we can now get back to genealogy.............
