The November issue of Family Tree Magazine (UK) contains a correction to the
piece in its Oct issue - which I passed on to these lists a month or so ago.
"Ancestry and Welsh Parish Registers
We apologise to readers, Ancestry co uk and the Church in Wales for our
piece last month in which we said that Ancestry had reached an agreement to
digitise Welsh parish records. This is not the case. It is the Genealogical
Society of Utah that has reached an agreement with the Church in Wales and
the record keepers to film and digitise historic Welsh parish records,
starting with the Monmouth diocese in September. Name indexes to the records
filmed will appear on
www.familysearch.org."
I am amazed that FTM should have made such a mistake, I regret that my
passing it on to the lists, however innocently, has mislead people and
indeed caused some excitement on the Dyfed list.
I now better understand the sentiment behind the phrase "Don't shoot the
messenger"
