I'm back again, still looking for information on the Nicholas Family. On the
Glamorgan FHS 1861 Census it gives James Nicholas born approx. 1821, also
his brother Benjamin Nicholas born approx. 1835, it says that James and Benjamin
were born in Maenclochog. I have put this to this list before.
On the marriage certificates of James Nicholas they state that Morris
Nicholas is his father; I know of two Maurice/Morris Nicholas', both were widowers
when they married again. On Benjamin Nicholas' typed marriage certificate it
states his father is Gwen, I queried this with the Cardiff Registry Office,
they sent me a photocopy of the original entry and to me this looks like Owen.
There the problem lies, could it have been an error by Benjamin stating the
incorrect name? or Could it be that he didn't know his father's name? I have
come across this in another branch of my family tree, father not what was
written on marriage certificate, another name on the birth certificate.
I have not been able to go further back than 1851. Pat very kindly searched
for me and found Benjamin on the 1851 Census, Benjamin was 16 years old, a
servant living on a Velindre Farm in Llysyfran. The head of the farm was a Mary
Lewis aged 78 widow and was born in Castle Bythe, Pembroke, Newport.
I don't know what the connection to the Morris Nicholas family as far as
Benjamin is concerned, but I think that Morris and Elizabeth Nicholas nee
Vaughan are on this branch of my family tree. I would just like to find the baptism
of Benjamin to find his parents, and to confirm the connection.
I would be grateful for any information anyone can give me, I know I have
asked so many times and the brickwall is still there after five years.
Many thanks and
