I posted this message on the Pembrokeshire List back in November only to
find that I should have used this list.
My grandfather, Edgar Jones (1888-1957) was born, and died in Tenby. Edgar
was a well known figure in Tenby and prior to his death off the North
Cliffs, would have been seen pushing his Council wheelbarrow through the
Town, keeping the streets clean of litter and leaves.
When Edgar died, his obituary and acknowledgements in the Tenby Observer
mentioned his sister Jinny and family of Garnant, and/or Jennie Parker of
Garnant (believed to be one of the same), mourners Mr. Wm. Jones of Tenby
(cousin) and W.J. Jones & E. Jones of York House.
Granfer Jones didn't speak much of his history, he kept a lot away from his
children, Hannah May (Nancy), Beatrice Yvonne (Yvonne) and Thomas Edgar
(Tommy) which is making my job very difficult as all three are now deceased.
Edgar was born to Margaret Ann Jones (B.1859) of St. Domingo, the daughter
of John Jones (B.1827) and Mary E. Phillips (B.1826) and who appeared to
have had several other children, possibly out of wedlock as Edgar's birth
seemed to be as there is no father on his Birth Certificate. Both of his
Marriage Certificates name his father as Paul Jones, Mariner, Deceased,
however, I cannot trace a Paul Jones and I cannot find a marriage of
Margaret Ann Jones either.
I would love to hear from anyone who can assist me in my research on Edgar's
siblings, his cousins and those mourners listed above.
Lastly, the Tenby Times recently had photographs of the Life Boat crew from
the 1960's. Both photographs show crew member Bill Jones who has a likeness
to both my uncle Tommy as well as to Edgar. I would like to hear from anyone
who can help me on this matter too.
