I've come across the use of Tingad or Tingat for the parish of
Llandingat so it seems to me quite likely that this could be
interpreted as "Tin-gate", particularly as your man seems to have
connections in Llanfairarybryn, which is a neighbouring parish. I
wouldn't rule out a connection with Llanafan fawr either; it would
have been more accessible from Llandingat than Llandefailog in the
early nineteenth century, as the main road from Carmarthen to Brecon
went through the market town of Llandovery, which is in the parish of
