I am new to this list but I am posting a message on behalf of a friend who has not tried
asking for help with information from this list before.
Best wishes and thanks in advance for any help offered.
Seeking Isaac/Izaac Morris Polish Hawker/Tailor in Llandingat/Llandovery 1841 Census.
Please can someone help me. I am trying to find out if my GG Grandfather Isaac or Izaac
Morris actually came from Poland. I have been struggling with various details and am
still not able to establish his exact place or date of birth. I have evidence that his
wife was an Elizabeth Lewis, born in Abergavenny approx. 1821, (but no marriage
certificate or parish record), that he had a son born in Narberth in 1843 named David
Morris, a daughter Emma, born in Swansea (1845) who lived in Barley Mow Court, Elizabeth
born in 1847 in Aberavon, and twin sons, Jacob (who died as a baby) and Robert born in
1849 in Aberavon. I have information, also, that he was involved with the founding of a
Draper's shop between 1866 and 1871 in Aberavon.
I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who might have connections with the above
family or from anyone who can help me establish a way of finding out if Isaac came from
Poland, where he arrived in this country and any information at all relating to his
marriage to Elizabeth Lewis. (There is a possible reference to them living in
Llandingat/Llandovery, Carmarthen in the 1841 census) and I have the census information up
until 1861 who indicates that Isaac was alive then but cannot find him on any other Welsh
census. I have found various pieces of information relating to Izaac Morris's in the
USA but it is difficult to tie these details together. His occupation was also listed as
"Jew" on a certificate and I wondered if anyone is trying to find an Isaac and
Elizabeth who had either a Jewish marriage or who might have married in either a chapel or
church in the Llandingat or Llandovery area either after 1836 and before 1845.
Thanks very much for taking the time to read this message and I look forward to hearing
from anyone who might have the smallest piece of information that would be of help to me.
