My grandma lied twice on her marriage certificate in 1924. . .
1) She stated that she was a widow
2) She stated that her father was deceased - he certainly wasn't and died
The reason she stated she was a widow was pretty obvious - two weeks after
her wedding to her "2nd husband" she gave birth to my uncle!!
I recently had to register the death of my mother and when you register a
death the information comes solely from the person registering. My mother,
when she registered my father's death, actually got his age wrong!! So, like
all official records the information is only as good as what is given and
should not be relied upon!
