I was interested in your query as I have several Thomas lines in and
It is not always easy to sort out which belongs to which family -
especially , in my case, a Thomas marries another Thomas!!
However I have built up a collection of Thomas info which includes
several George and Martha parents.
I'm sending you info about one of these off-list.
I will look through what I have and get back to you off-list so that I
can send attachments if I find useful info for you.
Meanwhile do you have any more clues?
You say Joseph is in Liverpool in 1843 - was he there before? I can see
several Joseph Thomas in Liverpool in the 1841 census but as the
birthplace is just shown as N for not in county and there are no
relationships, also the age being rounde down for the 1841 census would
show 15 ( therefore born 1826) for anyone aged 1 to 19.
There is one Joseph Thomas aged 15 born Wales in the school for the
Also there is a Joseph Thomas aged about right in Haverfordwest in 1841
working as a letter carrier.
What do you know about your Joseph - what was he transported for? what
was his occupation? Did you get hos father's name from a later marriage
certificate or from family story? Also info re brother Isaac and mother
Martha; - where was that from?
If someone said they were born in Haverfordwest it is also possible that
they were born in one of the surrounding villages so that has to be kept
I always say I was born in Haverfordwest as that makes it clearer to
people but actually I was born just outside town.
I'll get back to you later - but please pass on any extra clues.
If you want to send direct I am at

GGGrandfather, Joseph THOMAS was born in Haverfordwest abt 1823. His father
was George, mother Martha, he also had a brother Isaac, do not know if he
was older or younger. He was in Liverpool in 1843 where he was sentenced to
transportation to Tasmania. I am not sure where to start my research in
Wales and would be grateful for any help.
