Hi: Saw your query.
Census enumerators aren't always correct in what is written down in a
census, but they always wrote down the parish or county where a person was born, if
born in Wales. So Salem is not a church or chapel, its got to be a parish.
The only parish in that area of Wales that comes close would be Silian. If
the enumerator did not speak Welsh and some didn't, and the person giving the
information spoke Welsh, well, you can understand that there might be a

I'm new to this list and am hoping someone can point me in the right
direction. My grandmother was Margaret Hannah Davies she was born in the
Rhondda valley in 1898. Her parents were Rees Davies and Mary Jenkins. She
had four older brothers. David John Davies,bc1887 Thomas Rees Davies,bc1889
Trevor Daviesbc1892and Edgar Davies.bc1893. Mary died shortly after my
grandmother was born. The children were "adopted" by various families in

I've trawled through various searches and I believe that I have found the
family on the 1891 census in Cwmdare, where Rees put his place of birth as
Nantcwnlle and Mary as Salem, David john and Thomas Rees were born in
Lampeter, I'm 75% sure this is my family. But where is Salam? I have found
a marriage on free BMD Sept 1885 which I believe could be them in Lampeter.
Which registration district is the closest to where they lived?
I would be grateful for any help, with geographical areas, parish areas and
districts, as I am not familiar with the area. Also which family history
society would I need to join? I apologise for my ignorance in this matter.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you, in anticipation
