Hello the list
I have three questions about my Richards/Bateman family:
1. I have the David Bateman family who lived at Rhoslanog Fach. David's
father was Rowland Bateman who was married to Anne Reed. They lived at
Rowland's father was John Bateman (d 1792) who was married to Elizabeth.
They lived in Llanreithan. This John Bateman MAY have been related to John
Bateman who lived at Castle Villa Farm, Brawdy, and whose daughter, Mary
Bateman, married Daniel Davies.
The next person I have records for is David Bateman of Mynydd Mellyn who was
born about 1660.
My problem is: who came between David Bateman and John?
2. David Bateman from Rhoslanog Fach had a daughter Mary (b 1826). Mary
married Thomas Richards s/o Thomas Richards of Llanrhyan and Ann Louise
Thomas. They appear in the 1851 census but not in the 1861 census. In 1861
their sons David and James were with their Bateman grandparents, their sons
John and Stephen were with their Richards grandparents. Thomas Richards
appears to have abandoned farming, gone to sea and eventually died of
Despite my best efforts I cannot find any death records for Mary. I have
every death cert of a Mary Richards between 1851-1861 and have been through
the parish records to no avail. Neither have I found any newspaper record.
3. It appears Thomas and Mary Richards may have had an illegitimate child
prior to their marriage. This child remained with his Richards grandparents
until he ran away to sea at about 11 years old. His birth certificate only
identifies his mother. The son Thomas married and had a family. One of his
male descendants is seeking further proof of his heritage but the only other
male descendant is not interested in participating in any investigation.
Is there any way of connection through my DNA as a female to Thomas's great
