My forefathers lived within walking distance of yours, Begelly. We have never found bmd
records for the period prior to ca. 1830.Furthermore, baptism records do not necessarily
indicate birth dates. In one instance 6 siblings were baptized on the same day. Presumably
because a preacher happened to be visiting that day. In one family, some of the children
were baptized more than once, in 2 different churches. That family's children had a
high mortality rate, probably TB which was rampant in the area. As one child died, the
next born was given the dead one's name.

That was not uncommon for couple at that time.
Like my grandmother (Nicholas'
grand-daughter) said about babies: the
first [child] can come any time--all the rest take 9 months. WIlliam
and Mary. I shall keep that in mind.
Also cleared up was the a seeming departure from Welsh naming
customs. Nick's father and mother were William Evans and Mary
Hutchins Evans, and I'd assumed John was the first born. Good to know
that proprieties were observed
Re John I'm not sure about the baptism of a Thomas on 31st July
Given multiple subsequent records for both John and Thomas, this has
to be an incorrect entry. If Thomas were born in 1829 then his
marriage and burial records and the 1841 and 1851 census entries
would be wrong. Another reason to back check everything.
