The names given to David and Anne's children rather clinches it with a son
named Daniel, and it looks like David's mother, Ann Bowen, was born in
Bridell c. 1807. The few records which exist for marriages in Bridell
parish do not contain a single Bowen so I looked in some of the nearby
parishes. for her parents. Unfortunately I have no records for
Llanfairnantgwyn marriages pre 1813, but a Thomas Bowen married Hannah Evans
at Eglwyswrw in 1791 and a David Bowen married Elizabeth Davies in 1801. The
parishes hereabouts are so close together that they could have married in
any one of them.
There are Wills proved at Eglwyswrw for a Thomas Bowen in 1841 and a Mary
Bowen in 1824.
A John Edwards owned and operated a property at Bridell named Blaenergy in
the second and third decade of the 1800's at least and the Wills index does
not appear to include him, though there is a will for a John Edwards of
Pembrokeshire in 1835 and one of "No residence given" in 1837 which is
The "big time" Bowens were landed proprietors, but absentee landlords, at
Llanfairnantgwyn...in 1821 Gamaliel Bowen, Gentleman, owned Ravel and Thomas
Bowen Esquire held the Tithes, David Bowen Esquire shared ownership of
Bwlchgariglwyd and Frances and Joyce Bowen Cwmpabwr. By 1831 only Thos.
Bowen Esq's name appears in the Land Tax record.
It looks like our correspondent, Ron, definitely needs to obtain a birth
certificate for one the children of David Edwards and
his wife, Anne, to see what is revealed.

Following on, the 1851 shows Daniel and Ann still in Bridell but this time
Daniels place of birth is shown as Llechryd, Cardiganshire. In house were
his wife Anne, William age 11, Maria age 8, James age 5 and Thomas age 2.
So the William shown in 1841 must have been 1 not 7. David was not at home
he was working in Eglwyswrw.
