For Fred Seamons
From what you have shown I figure that Thomas could belong to either
or David...you will probably have to seek a baptism record. There are four
foolscap pages of marriages for the various spellings of Philipps/Phillips
etc. in Rhos Hundred to 1813.
A Moses Phillips in 1754 married Anne Morgan at Haverfordwest St. Mary and a
Moses Phillips in 1758 married Dorothy Evans at H/west St. Mary ....(perhaps
the same bridegroom). Because of the rarity of the name, this might connect
to the ancestry you seek.
A Moses Philipps in 1781 at Haverfordwest St. Martin married Lettice Henton
and a Moses Phillips in 1798 at Haverfordwest St. Mary married Elizabeth
Evans. This latter couple seem likely to be the Moses you mentioned born
as his wife was Elizabeth.
A David Phillips married Elizabeth Phelps at Haverfordwest St. Thomas in
1803. A Benjamin Phelps in 1779 at Haverfordwest St. Mary married Mary
Roch......possible parents for Elizabeth.
In the 1851 census if Thomas is still living with Moses is nothing at all
shown about their relationship?
Unfortunately I could not find any truly relevant Wills, but there was one
for a Thomas Phillips proved at Haverfordwest in 1828......might be worth a
look at the abstract from Haverfordwest Records Office....and there are
several for the surname Roch at H/west....Elinor St. Martins Town & Country
1753, John T & C 1735, Lettice H/west 1841 and Philip 1769.
No proof about anything...but perhaps things for you to work from.

Subject: [Dyfed] Relationship of David, Thomas, and Moses PHILLIPS of
Just received death cert. for David PHILLIPS d 23 Jul 1864 age 84 years.
It was sign by Thos N PHILLIPS, Present at the death, Dew Street
I traced Thomas in the census and he was born abt 1808, Haverfordwest, a
cutler. In 1841 he was living with Moses PHILLIPS, bn abt 1778, (bn
Haverfordwest in 1851 census a widow) and Elizabeth bn abt 1774. In 1851
Moses is a wid., but occupation and birth place is blank still living with
Thomas. David is a mason, bn abt 1783 in Walton West/Nolton with wife
At first I thought Thomas was David's son, but after checking the
census's it looks like he might be his nephew, with Moses being David's
brother and the father of Thomas.
I'm hoping someone has already solved this and knows how their related
and might have the birth date and parents for the Thomas, David and Moses.
Thanks for having this list, it's the best I've seen. Fred
