You do not say whether you live in Northumberland or
Schuylkill Counties. I have done considerable
genealogical research in Lackawanna, PA researching my
Jones family and would have made no progress if it had
not been for the help of people on the Lackwanna list
and have visit distant cousins in the US as a result.
I was lucky that my Jones', who were also miners, did
not move very far early on. Although later they moved
to Washington and California. I would suggest that it
may be worth including all counties in the Anthracite
region of PA in your search. Perhaps the family moved
about looking for work? Could it be that they went to
Scranton or some other anthracite region in the period
which is blank?
Also, it may be worth asking on the lists for example
if anyone has access to records in Orwigsburg. When I
asked such a question in Lackawanna, 5 people offered
to look up censuses, shiplist etc and that was before
Ancestry and Ellis Island had the data on line.
You'll only find the treasure if you keep digging!

To all who have given me even the slightest help
David, Brian, Julie,
Betty, Christopher, Thank-you so very much. I
guess there are some avenues I
have to cross yet.
To answer some questions:
1. The middle initial "M" for David is only in
the 1922 Inheritance Tax
2. We have William & David arriving in
Philadelphia Pa in 1841( Need to
get transcripts--we have seen copies thru out the
years, (lost??)no one
remembers seeing a port origin)
3. The original Oath of citizenship papers for
William dated 1847,
native of Wales (nothing else)
4. We have know that David & family were in Mt.
Carmel , PA by 1876 and
listed in the 1880 censes ( the one and the same
info. offered to me)
5. Between 1847 Orwigsburg, Pa and 1876 Mt
Carmel PA we have no
information about them at all.
6. The men in the family had very little
association w/ the churches at
that time. The Mt Carmel area being predominantly
Catholic ( first Catholic
church in 1875) and Italian by 1882 followed by the
Lithuanians in 1886(my
father says they spent so much time working the mine
that on Sunday they
stayed home unless "forced" by the wives )
7. Tidbit of info---In 1892 Mt Carmel was one of
the first in the world
to have electric street lights
8. David's' death cert (1922) lists no info
of father /mother/or place
of birth except Wales and as a Anthracite miner.
Wasn't anthracite mined in
Cardigan as culm (cwlwm) ???( Nearly all the men in
the family worked the
mines from my 2nd great grand David to my father who
carried coal buckets at the
age of 9 yrs.
9. Marriage certs for David's' sons William,
John & Robert with no
listing of fathers origins
10. Deed records, land transfers, news articles,
Welsh history in Mt
Carmel, etc. we have with no mentioning or origins
So... in conclusion I need the manifest from the
ship, more info 1847-1876
on their whereabouts and still an unfound death cert
for William. Is it a
million in one shot that the county of origin in
Wales is hidden in there
somewhere ?? And if not ??
Thanks to all !
