You asked same name for two children in the same family - yes, I have seen
that. I won't say its common, but it does happen.

How likely would it be (1820-1830) that a man would name a son by his first
wife, John, and then just seven years later, by his second wife, name a
second son, John also when *the first John was still living*? The first
John was possibly raised by his grandparents and not his father and
step-mother, which would might make it more understandable. I am trying to
sort out if one Thomas Evans married (1) Mary and then (2) Rosamond Morgan
and had sons named John by both of his wives OR if there are two Thomas
Evans. Any thoughts?
