Following on from my previous message, the only Mortimer marriage which
seems to fit at Rhos Hundred for Stephen Mortimer's parents might be between
Philip Mortimer and Margaret Evans at H/west St. Martin in 1768.
If Elinor Phillips was christened at Rhosycaerau, then being Independents,
her parernts might be hard to find as they could have lived anywhere in a
fairly large area, but you have given me some hope....I have a Martha
Phillips who married at St. Nicholas in 1816 and I have never been able to
trace her parentage....she was apparently born at Granston. Did you look
for christenings of Elinor's siblings at Rhosycaerau?
I noted that 01/02/1816 there is a Henry Mortimer, Mariner, who married Anne
Lewis at Camrose.....could be a relation to your Thomas.
I have some Camrose burial information....
a Thomas Mortimer, of Pencwm, Camrose ...1st. Nov. 1829 aged 15, so an 1814
a James Mortimer of Pelcwm Bridge, 22nd. Nov. 1829 aged 14.
a Mary Morgans living at Camrose but belonging to Treffgarn Parish aged 100,
1834 or 5.
a Martha Morgans, Pelcomb Cross Sept. 1 1837/8 aged 76, so would be born c.
There were marriages between John Morgans 1794 at H/west St. Mary to Martha
Morgan Morgans 1793 to Martha Phillips at H/west St. Mary....possibly
One of these might be Martha of Pelcomb Cross.
I checked an article I have listing Camrose Monumental Inscriptions.....most
are a bit later and there are no Mortimers.
Could you check the name of Elinor's father, please. At Camrose there were
a few families with the surname of Garrett with a double t.....and a Thomas
Garret, Gentleman was the proprietor of lands at Camrose some tenanted by a
David Price Garrett......he is possibly a son of James Garrett who married
Jane Price at Llanstadwell in 1793.
There was a Will proved at St. David's for a Thomas Mortimer in 1838....have
you checked this out?

Because the first son was named Stephen, the parents of Thomas Mortimer
are probably Stephen Mortimer who in 1797 at Camrose married Martha
There was also a Benjamin Mortimer married Margaret Williams at Camrose in
1805 and a Daniel Mortimer in 1785 married Phebe John.
There was a William Garnet shown as marrying at St. Davids in 1806 and a
William Garned in 1797...I am pretty sure the last one was a
Garnon....there were lots of Garnon families around the general area, and
of course there might have been a few Garnet/ts too, but I have seen
census entries for members of the Garnon family spelt Garnet........and
unfortunately I can find no marriage for Elinor's parents.
Later, when I get time, I'll look at my Land Tax records and see if I can
come up with anything further.

Could SKS help with the following, after several years we have now found
the line we need.
Thomas Mortimer, abt 1800. married 28 Feb, 1822, Camrose Parish Church.
Elinor Philips, chr, 16 Nov, 1802, Rhosycaerau Independant St. Nicholas,
Pembroke, father Garnett Philips, MOTHER?.
They had 3 children, Stephen, 17 Sept; 1822, Camrose, John, 20May 1825,
Elizabeth, 12 April 1829, Prendergast.
We have the 1841 cencus for Thomas and Elinor no children at home only Ann
Williams age 15, by 1851 they were in Llanstephan Carmarthen.
We would Like to find when Thomas was B/B and who his parents, siblings
were, and any other family .
I do believe earlier info says the name might have been Martine, any help
or advise will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you. Sylvia Gardner
