Just wanted to wish everyone a very Happy New Year (a bit early, I know!)
and thank you all for your enthusiastic participation on the Dyfed and Powys
lists since their inception early in '98. When I 'found' the Glamorgan
mailing list last January, I subscribed to it even though I had no GLA
ancestry --- it was enough just to be learning from others' Welsh research
experience. From there, I 'met' Gareth Hicks and volunteered for lookups on
the South West Wales Lookup Exchange. It wasn't long before he convinced me
we needed a Mid-Wales LE. Gareth then decided to sponsor the Dyfed list,
and just as Gareth & I were mulling over the need for a list covering
Mid-Wales, along came Malcolm Bebb who immediately got things rolling to
start the Powys list! Thinking back over the volume of email I've had since
the lists began, it's difficult to believe it all happened less than a year
I hope more and more people will step in to share their own expertise in
Welsh research (actually, my family hopes you do, so I'll give this a break
now and then!) and help the newcomers sort out the many peculiarities
I'm off to the snowy woods for a few days (northern Michigan) of
snowmobiling and celebrating the New Year (no celebrating while
snowmobiling, though!) --- back on the weekend.
For those of you I've promised lookups for, I'll take care of those right
after the New Year --- promise!
Here's hoping for some major 'breakthroughs' in 1999!!!
Very best to you all,
