Subject: Looking for Phillips' family
Date: 24 December 1998 16:37
I have been trying to trace my great grandfather, John Phillips without
much to go on and without much luck. He was born abt. 1831 in
Carmarthreshire I think. In an old album I found a 8" X 10" photograph
with 8 scenes of the Wales countryside. On the very top in my mothers
handwriting, that is very difficult to read, are the words that look like
Pantry or Panty - leudys or beydys. On the back in my mothers handwriting :
Llangeiths along the Roman hiway regaron-Lampeter-Alaystwyeth- nantewhlle
church wlchllan "Panty beudy"
Thriburg settlements in Paddy's Run. Shandon Granville & Welch hills 1803)
rented by the two Phillips boys from Carmarthreshire who were forced to
leave Wales for printing seditious pamphlets against the English government
while they were students at St. Davids College at
This is all I have. Do you think it would be enough to use to trace him
He married Maria Ledbetter who was born abt 1831 in England. They moved to
Scioto Co., Ohio and raised their family in a town called Portsmouth.
Thanks for any help you can give me. Merry Christmas ! Pam
