In answer to a query about searching for wills, the National Library
Following a lot of feedback on how to search wills; we have developed
a new form, which will be very similar to the old one. It will be
possible to search for names, parishes, occupation and townships by
date and diocese. The form will also offer predictive text for the
parishes, which will help if you don't know the spelling for certain
parishes. This will be available very soon.
You can sort the wills according to date (newest first) through the
sort option at the top of the results column. It will also shortly
be possible to see the name, occupation and parish relating to the
will in the search results, so that you won't have to open each will
to see which is which.
In response to complaints about the difficulty of using the new
Archives catalogue, they suggest looking at the help page:
In response to my query about not finding in the new catalogue a
collection I knew should be there, they said: "the St David's
collection hasn't arrived in the new Catalogue yet, but work is being
done at the moment to make it available".
It's possible that the occasional non-availability of the system (eg
Karen's post yesterday) is related to these developments.
