I'd also look for a horse connection, I think. Found (via google) at
Currier - One who dresses the coat of a horse with a currycomb; one who
tanned leather by incorporating oil or grease.

Subject: [DYFED] Currier
Today I received the copy of my ggrandfather's marriage
certificate. Whilst I have been confronted, not to say
confused, with a James marrying a James, both of the
fathers are named Thomas James!
However the profession of the bride's father is given as
"currier". My initiative suggests this was something to
do with the tanning industry but was there such an active
business/profession in the Narbeth area around 1872?
