I am researching my GRIGG family of Manorbier.
I have got back TO JOHN GRIGG b.1811 Manorbier. I have a marriage certificate for JOHN to
JANE POWEL on October 8th 1840, she was the local schoolmistress at Manorbier and her
father was John Powel a tailor.
On the certificate it mentions John's father as WILLIAM GRIGG, wheelwright and they
lived at Thorn, Manorbier in 1840. John later in life lived at The Mill, Manorbier and
also occupied 8 acres of land according to the 1851 census.
What I am looking for is information on WILLIAM GRIGG, I have been told that he was not
born in Manorbier. Apart from John did he have any more children and who was his wife,
when did he died.
JOHN GRIGG was married three time, (1) JANE POWEL, (2) MARY MORGANS (3) ELIZABETH ? b.1823
Robeston Wathen. I know nothing about his wives apart from what I have mentioned about
I have been to Manorbier and looked around the churchyard but I could not find any graves
for any of the family. Would there be any photos of the Mill or the School, I am just
hoping there might have been one with Jane Powel in it.
I don't expect for one moment to have all these questions answered it wouldn't be
fair to expect it - but if someone could pull a couple out I would be most obliged.
If I can be of any help to anyone I have the 1881 census and a copy of the Burial Index
for England and Wales (this does not include Pembs. in it unfortunately).
Thank you very much for your help and time.
