Sadly, Ratko Mladic, who was hiding for years in the Serbian Banat village
of Lazarevo (Lazarfeld, which was resettled with Bosnian ethnic Serbs after
WWII) is still a hero in the eyes of many Serbs, as are his fellow war
criminals, Radovan Karadzic (now in prison) and Josip Broz Tito - so, what
else is new??? In fact, people were quick to demonstrate in the streets in
support of Mladic. It's very obvious that the whereabouts of Mladic were
known to the authorities all along, but because his arrest was one of the
conditions for allowing Serbia's entry into the European Union, they
finally bowed to pressure - it was a political decision in the hopes of
saving the present government.
As to why Tito was never prosecuted, that's a whole different can of worms.
At that time all German people, including those who had been peaceful
citizens of Hungary, then in the newly-created state of Yugoslavia, for 200
years, were considered the enemy. Members of my own family innocently
suffered starvation, cruelty and death in Tito's camps. Tito was courted by
all the Western powers, (who were undoubtedly informed about his
atrocities). They used him as a tool against Stalin's Communism - it was
all self-serving politics. I'm going to stop here, because my emotions
might get out of control and I don't want this to become political.

I just wondered whether people in the USA were aware that Ratko Mladic, the

week and is being extradited to the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague.
