Jeanne,
H.M.S. Monmouth launched 1901 Cruiser, Guns 14 x 6", 9x12pondwers. Sunk
by Gunfire off Coronel was part of Vice-Admiral Sir Christopher Cradock's
{in H.M.S. Good Hope} squadron defeated by Vice- Graf von Spee {in
Scharnjorst}. Other ships Good Hope* Otranto* & Glasgow {* sunk). The
noteable thing about this engagement is that it was the first time that
wireless used in battle by the Royal Navy.

Able Seaman Albert Edward HARVEY, R.N., of Plymouth, Devon, died on
Sunday,
1st November, 1914, when his ship H.M.S.Monmouth was sunk in action
off
Chile, S. America. Can anyone on the List tell me any more about this
action and how the ship was lost?
