In the continuing search, on behalf of the Devon Wills Project, for transcripts and
abstracts that were made of Devon wills before the originals were destroyed by the World
War II fire at the Exeter Probate Office, I've come across a reference to the
following very promising-sounding book:
"Abstracts of English records gathered principally in Devonshire and Essex, In A
Search For The Ancestry Of Roger Dearing, 1624-1676, and Matthew Whipple, 1560-1618"
by Lovering, Mary & George R. Martin (Boston, 1929) 637pp.
Copies of this book are I've found available for purchase, but I've not found any
searchable online copies - at least at Google Books, the Internet Archive, or the LDS
Family History Library. (I don't know about Ancestry.) There is a copy in the British
Library, but I am unlikely to visit London in the near future.
Does anyone on Devon-L have access to a copy of this book - e.g. in a major US
genealogical library? If so I'd be interested to know whether it in fact contains
actual Devon will transcripts and abstracts, and to obtain their details.
