My first posting on this list, I am researching my OVINGTON family origins
and have discovered that my g.g.grandfathers brother, Daniel OVINGTON b1821
Loftus Yorkshire was a Master Mariner.
In 1861 he was the Captain of the William Stoveld which apparently sank in
Clovelly Harbour during fierce storms around the 3rd of December 1863, there
is mention of it on the Hartland Museum site.
Would anyone have any information on the sinking or would know what local
papers might have covered it?
I do not know if Daniel was Master at the time of the sinking but do know he
passed away in 1865, perhaps as a consequence of the sinking?
Any help or guidance gratefully received
Best wishes Nivard Ovington Cornwall (UK)
