Yes, Elizabeth Kipp, the OPC for BN has already been kind enough to
send me her list of PR events for Marleys in Bishops Nympton - very
useful because it contained one spelling variant (Marleigh) that I'd
never have thought of without seeing it. As I recollect, this doesn't
come up on FMP as a variant of Marley, so I tend to do 2 searches in
FMP - wild card Mar* and then wild-card Mor*. The latter isn't too
painful on single parishes but on a county wide search, the Morleys
drown out the Marleys.
You are perfectly right, of course, about the county boundary. I tried
to locate parishes on the opposite side a few months ago only to
discover myself in the unparished area of Exmoor, so presumed it
unlikely that the Marleys lived in the Great Grimpen Mire (oh, hang on
- wrong Moor there - too much Sherlock). Certainly (more seriously) I
am finding a number of missing marriages, so it may be that some took
place over the border in parishes like Hawkridge or Dulverton. So yes,
thanks for the reminder - once I've circumnavigated the parishes
immediately around Bishop Nympton, crossing the border will be next.
