I have a Royal Navy record for a James Davies, it say's he was
born on the
22nd of November 1851 Plymouth, Devon, it also says he joined the navy
the 22nd of November 1869 "NO 37061" for 10 years. The last entry on his
record was 30th October 1874.
Malcolm, I have numerous Navy records ALL of which have been EXACTLY one
year out on the date of birth. So worth checking a year either side.
I have searched the free bmd and Ancestry.com
births but can not find
record of a birth in Plymouth for a James Davies "Davis". I have been
on this one of my Grandparents for some time, can anyone suggest any way
around this problem?
FreeBMD shows that very few births have been transcribed for 1851, 1850 is
light also. Have you checked the ancestry beta version viewing the actual
images rather than the index? There is a James Davis on the 1861 census born
Ann Davis abt 1819 Plymouth, Devon, England Head St Andrew Devon
James Davis abt 1852 Plymouth, Devon, England Son St Andrew Devon
Jane Davis abt 1856 Plymouth, Devon, England Daughter St Andrew Devon
