I'm trying to help a distant relative figure out who some people in her
grandfather's address book were. He went back to England and Wales many
years ago to visit relatives (and he's dead now.) Two of them were Alf
and Jack Pile, who were living in Cardiff, born after 1890. I'm not
sure when he went back to visit, but Jack was still alive in 1990.
Also, their father, whose last name was Pile, first name unknown, was
born after 1870 (not sure how she knows this). His last name was Pile,
and he was listed in the address book as living in "Broseham, Devon".
I don't think that there is a Broseham in Devon, and we're thinking
that it's probably Brixham, since we know that the family goes back
there for quite awhile. I tried searching the 1901 census online for
the boys but no luck.
My main question for the list-- is there a Broseham? And if not, could
the sound of Brixham sound like Broseham to American ears? Paula
