If you have access to these types of records, I wonder if you can find
any other references to Richard WILCOCKS (known to be a Quarter Boy in
Plymouth Artificers 1779, served at Plymouth dockyard for three years
eleven months between 30 Jan 1775 and 12 Aug 1779 discharged by request
on the latter date. Age 16 (in 1779, chr. 8 Jan 1763 Stoke Damerel,
Devon); or his brother Robert WILLCOCKS chr. 24 Jul 1765 Stoke Damerel,
m. 28 Dec 1797 St. Mary's Portsea, and a ropemaker in the period 1797
onward. He would probably have learned his trade in Devonport.
What are the QS series of records, please, and are they only available
Taylorsville, UT, USA.
Tony, Re your MANSFIELD family, the Reference QS/21/1759/16 at Plymouth &
West Devon Record Office gives a Samuel Mansfield in 1759 as.... Master Caulker
in HM Yard and Captain of a company in Col. Frederick Rogers regiment doing
duty in the dockyard at Stoke Damerel (aka Plymouth Dock or Devonport).
PWDRO have a further record of him in 1761 under QS/21/1761/16.
