I understand that the BMD website gives you the information about
the birth, marriage and death of your ancestors from 1837 to 1900s.
I want to know where I can get information on my
great-great-great-grandmother Jane Doidge's birth... According to
the 1851 Census she was 13 years old and her year of birth would be
around 1838. I have got the marriage certificate that she was
married in January 1866 and it mentioned that she was 25. The year
of birth would be 1841 and so I am told that she would be born on
6th February 1832 at Torquay! So her age and the year would not be
accurate. So I would like to find out her birth details before 1837.
So I wonder how I can find the information before 1837. Can you
help me with that?
You will find a good introductory account of civil registration (post
1837) and how to find earlier information (from parish registers) in
GENUKI, in Roy Stockdill's article "Newbies' Guide to Genealogy &
Family History" - which though aimed at Yorkshire genealogists is in
fact generally applicable.
