I'm trying to find my husband's great-grandfather's arrival from England to
the US or the Bahamas. Family lore is he came from England with his brother,
Robert, but decided to stay while Robert returned to England as he was
engaged to be married. Thomas married Mary Ann Watkins in Key West, FL on 20 Nov
1873. Robert married Annie Solome Squires Jewell on 21 Aug 1878 in Clovelly.
Thomas H. Curtis/Courtice/Courtis b. 1847 to Prudence Curtis in Hartland.
Prudence married Robert Badcock on 30 Sep 1849 in Clovelly. Their children
were all born in Clovelly:
Charles b. 5/26/1850 He later changed his name to Charles Badcock Curtis
and moved to London where he was on the Metropolitan Police Force. His
wife, Annie, died on 17 Aug 1925 and is buried in a London Cemetery. They had
children and I'd like to find his descendents.
Robert b. 2 July 1852 He married but retained the name Badcock.
William b. 1855 and died at sea on 22 Mar 1876.
Mary b. 17 July 1859
Elizabeth died as an infant.
When Prudence died in April 1867, Robert remarried a woman much younger than
he was. The sons so disliked the step-mother that they took their mother's
maiden name of Curtis. That is certainly true for Charles. Thomas was born
out of wedlock and his mother's name was Curtis. Her father was a Royal
Marine named Thomas Curtis according to information in the Registry.
Would there be an outbound record showing when Thomas left England?
