George was born about 1845 I know about his descendants but his ancestors
are a mystery. He was in Appledore from 1867 onwards when he was named the
father of another George Edward Staines and presumably married to the mother
Mary Ashton, as she called herself Staines formerly Ashton on his birth
cert., but cannot find a marriage.
Cannot find him in 1861 census or before that. He was a sailor so could
have come in by ship from practically anywhere.
He is a brick wall of which I have two. Another Appledore sailor John Gayett
born about 1845 but I do not know where, Cannot find him in 1851 census for
Devon of 1861 census, the 1871/1881 puts his birthplace as Bude in one case
and Loundon in Cornwall in the other.
Have tried the list before but you never know maybe 2006 will bring the
