Paul has more than duplicated my brief off-list suggestion, except I forgot
to suggest you might also ask Crediton Cemetery who paid for the headstone
and if anyone might have reserved space in the same plot, because that
memorial has a blank section at the bottom, as if intended for the inclusion
of a son or daughter who is/was still alive when the photo was added to Find
A Grave in November 2012. Watch that space!. But the headstone photo
raises some interesting questions worth raising on-list.
Major Hugh Cecil WALTON was 89 when he died in 1999, consistent with his
birth in Hong Kong ca 1910/11, while Margaret Pat WALTON (known as Pat) was
75 when she died in 1900, indicating her birth ca 1915, for whom FreeBMD has
a probable birth in Q2 1915 of WORTHINGTON Margaret P, mother = BARLOW, in
Chorlton, Lancs. If, as seems very likely, Paul has correctly identified
the marriage of Hugh C WALTON and Margaret P WORTHINGTON in Caernarvon RD in
Q2 1982, then Hugh would have been about 72 and Margaret about 67, so they
could not have been the parents of the Rebecca WALTON born in 1984,
otherwise Pat would be in the Guinness Book of Records! But the gravestone
describes Pat as "wife and mother", supporting Paul's speculation that this
was her second marriage, for which she evidently used her maiden name, and
quite possibly also Hugh's second marriage, but that would not confirm Pat
as the mother of Hugh's child(ren), if indeed he had any.
The gravestone identifies Pat as SRN QAIMNS and the London Gazette records
that on 11 August 1947 Margaret Patricia WORTHINGTON was granted a
commission as a Sister in Queen Alexandria's Imperial Military Nursing
Service Reserve, implying she was demobbed after wartime service and was
still unmarried at that time.
FreeBMD, Ancestry and FMP have the following marriages:
Hugh C WALTON and Lavinia GOODY in Wandsworth, London in Q3 1939, and deaths
of several Lavinia WALTON between 1963 and 1982,
Thomas McCONNELL and Margaret P WORTHINGTON in Southend RD in Q1 1954, and
deaths of several Thomas McCONNELL between 1962 and 1981,
for which you can easily find several possible children by searching on
birth surname and mother's maiden name (whom I do not name because of the
living persons convention).
There is also a marriage of Anthony E COLSON and Margaret P WORTHINGTON in
Kettering RD in Q1 1948, but he seems to have died much later in 2005.
You might also look for any 1982 WALTON-WORTHINGTON marriage announcement in
the Devon and/or Caernarvon press.
Hugh Cecil WALTON (service number 153600) appears to have joined the Royal
Artillery in 1927 about the age of 17 (FMP), attended Officer Cadet Training
Unit on the outbreak of WWII, receiving his Emergency Commission as Lt in
October 1940, confirmed in December 1946, and was promoted to Major in
October 1953 (London Gazette).
Ancestry's database of British Phone Books (up to 1984) has several records
for H C WALTON living at 31 Tower Gardens, Deep Lane, Crediton between 1978
and 1983, both before and after his 1982 marriage to Pat. According to
Google hits including StreetView, number 31 is a modest terraced house on a
1960s/70s-style development, which was sold in July 2000 (possibly by the
Walton executor?) and again in July 2001.
If you do not have access to FMP you can currently get 1 month World for 1
but remember to cancel the auto-renew box.

I had look on Findmypast . The only marriage it came up with was:
First name(s) HUGH C
Last name WALTON
Marriage quarter 2
Marriage year 1982
Registration month -
MarriageFinderT HUGH C WALTON married MARGARET P WORTHINGTON
Spouse's last name WORTHINGTON
There was only one possible child came up between 1982 and 1990.
First name(s) REBECCA LESLEY C
Last name WALTON
Birth year 1984
Birth quarter 4
Registration month 12
Mother's last name WORTHINGTON
The only birth for a Hugh C is in 1912 in China. There are number of Hughs
across the country. With Margaret there were no Margaret P but several
Margarets. I wonder if this was a late or second wedding or that Margaret
was much younger. Rebecca may be a co-incidence
One Rebecca L was married in 2003 and one in 2004. Findmypast only goes up
Obits are usually restricted to the local newspaper. I did find there is a

Finally google "Hugh Cecil WALTON". There is an extract from the (London)

dissolution of a partnership in a driving school in Raynes Park, West
London. This was in 1957.

Can anyone help search for an obituary for my long lost 2nd cousin?
Hugh Cecil WALTON d. 29 Oct 1999,
his wife: Margaret Pat WALTON d. 31 Oct 1990.
Both deaths registered in Med Devon District.
They are buried in Crediton Cemetery, Mid Devon District, Devon, England and
a grave marker photo is found at Find A Grave.
My goal is to locate their children/grandchildren and share some family
history with them.
Thank you very much!
