I have received a marriage certificate registration district is Crediton.
I can read the bride's occupation - maidservant.
I cannot decipher the groom's, his father's or the father of the bride's
They all appear to have the same occupation.
Is there anywhere I can post the image for in order to get other peoples
All help would be appreciated.
I appreciate that Pauline is not querying the GRO but I thought I would just
point out that I am having a little bit of a to do myself with the ordering
of certificates, I have recently ordered 6 certificates from GRO online
services. I do fully appreciate that mistakes are made by all and I do appreciate
that they are busy at the moment but, I was told that the reference number
of two of the certificates I ordered were not applicable. I have checked my
own findings and have found that they are there and that I hadnt made a
mistake. On one of these certificates they charged me £3 for a search fee and
refunded me the £4. On the other one I had ordered two for the same name in the
year 1848, one was for Vol 26 Page 92. The other was for Vol. 26 Page 91.
On the page 92 they crossed out the 92 and altered it to 91, this resulted in
them sending me two certificates with the same details on. Not a happy
person am I! 92 is definitely there.
Now the thing is this on one of them it is as clear as clear can be, on the
other there are words which are unreadable. I have always let them get away
with this thinking that it would be to do with the copying from original
aspect but it is obvious it is to do with the Department itself and their
procedure. I have pointed this out to them and confirmed that to us it is important
we have as correct detail as we can, for instance on my first copy the
mother's surname is as clear as clear, on the second it is unreadable. I think in
future if the result hinders me I will ask for fresh copies, we pay for the
certificates and there are an awful lot of people who are working voluntarily
on the BDM online service. Their work is fully appreciated but perhaps we
are entitled to expect good copies from the GRO.
