I am trying to sort out what happened to my WREFORD family in the mid to late 18th
century. I wondered if anyone had parish records or other documents that might help. What
I have comes from secondary sources but these need to be checked against original records
for it to make any sense.
John WREFORD, aged 24yrs and Sarah WILSON married at Morchard Bishop on 3rd April 1746. I
think they were both of that parish.
Initially their children were baptised at Morchard Bishop (MB) but it would appear at some
point the family moved to Stockleigh English (SE), possibly c1763.
Mary bap May 1747 MB. married LAKE Nov 1777 SE.
Robert bap July 1750 MB. married at Exeter St John 1786
William bap Jan 1753 MB. married at Sandford 1783
Jane bap Jan 1756 MB. married WOODMAN in Nov 1788 (where?)
John born 1758? bap Sept 1763 SE. married Ann ? in 1799 (where?)
Thomasin bap June 1758 MB. married KENSHOLE Sept 1779 SE.
Elizabeth bap July 1761 MB. died 1762 MB
Mathew bap June 1766 (where?) married COZENS Jul 1794 SE
Richard bap July 1770 SE ?
John WREFORD died at Down St Mary but was buried Morchard Bishop on 7th May 1794. I
don't have any record concerning the death of his wife. There may be other children I
have missed, maybe at some point Sarah died in childbirth.
My line is from ROBERT WREFORD and his 1786 Exeter marriage. I wonder if he might also
have had an earlier marriage - maybe before he moved to the city. In the 1780s and early
1790s he was a victualler in Exeter, listed in Kelly's 1791 directory. At Devon Record
Office I have seen his will, written a few months before he died in 1793.
Any help would be most welcome.
