One more entry from AG
12 Aug 1902 Daisy Margaret Burner baptised to William and Charlotte
Elizabeth, of 1 Essendine Road Paddington, W, Assistant Teacher,
Mary-le-bow All Souls N School
There was a William Burner possibly married to Elizabeth Charlotte Hales
at Dartford Sep 1898 (FreeBMD), but there are two William Henry Burners
shown as marrying, one in Kingsbridge in 1896 and the other in Andover

There was a William Henry Burner (WHB), full age, Carpenter, of Aveton

Steere, full age, of Aveton Gifford, daughter of John Steere, Mason
married at Aveton Gifford on 5 Dec 1869.
William Henry was probably born around 1840 (age 83 at death in AG in
1923 when he was described as Coal Merchant and barge owner)
William and Elizabeth had a son William baptised at AG 17 Apr 1870.
It is very possible he is either the same as, or could be confused
with, your man. Are you sure your William was illegitimate?
WHB was not born in AG but there was another William Burner age 66
buried at AG 5 Apr 1875, so born 1809, husband of Ann who would be a
logical father for him. That William was living at Bridge End, which
although closer to AG is actually in Churchstow.
WHB is related to an uncle of mine and I have a photo of him that I
will send you off-list. He owned a barge used to bring coal and other
goods up the river Avon from Bantham to Aveton Gifford - I think to a
little quay at Bridge End. He used to take people from the village
down to Bantham and Bigbury for outings.
