John EDMOND als SPREY paid 1s in Poll Tax 1660
I cannot seem to find any Ref. to a 1660 Poll Tax in among Taxes etc. Can someone please
Also, I am interested in anyone else who has a name with the als of SPREE/SPREY/SPRYE etc
in the Hannock/Chudleigh/ Ideford area.
The CD of 'Devon Taxes 1581-1660, edited by T L Stoate' says:
"The Assessment of 1660
This is only extant for the hundreds of Axminster and Colyton. The roll is
undated and without any worthwhile preamble.it is listed in the P.R.O.
calendar as the 1660 poll tax but it is clearly not this but an assessment
So perhaps your source of information was the PRO.
Under the 1660 tax there is an entry for John Edmond als Sprey and wife
paying the 1 shilling tax in Chudleigh, in the hundred of Exminster.
