Oh dear ....... this should take us off the genealogical track for some little time.
Perhaps it's time to stock up the nuclear bomb shelter again.
I realise this in off subject matter but nevertheless, it is vitally
I hope all of you understand that the Year 2000 is but a few months away.
It is not too early to start collecting everything you might need in the
event of an emergency in your area.
A good start is a book by Michael s.Hyatt. Called The Millennium Bug. If
nothing else it will shock you into doing something - anything, to prepare
for that which might well happen. Remember if the electricity is out for
any length of time, your PC, your telephone, your refrigerator, stove,
lights, etc. will be gone. Without electicity the water company cannot pump
water. You will have to also make laundry and toilet plans. I recently
attended a conference to which representatives of the utility companies had
been invited. Some are prepared, some are NOT. Pretty scary. Computers are
part of the lives of almost everyone these days whether you know it or not.
They run everything we depend on. You must make plants NOW. Next August
might be too late to start planning. Stores only have on hand at any given
time 72 hours worth of groceries, without the aid of computers which might
not be working there quite well might be not food or water available if the
worst happens. Be prepared. My daughter and I have been planning for some
time now. Everyone's list will be different according to one's lifestile,
but all will need basics.
Please dear Friends, do take this seriously and we will all be able to ride
over the first few months of the Y2K seamlessly.
If anyone is interested I have made lists for our house and will be glad to
share. I do not know whether or not it would be ok for post them here. They
are not long and to the point so should not take up too much download time
for those who have to pay for downloading.
I shall be attending another Conference in two months so see how those in
charge are progressing - or not.
I also have some questions for list owners but will do that at some later
